Laying two layer floors
> Base layer
> Sticking together
> Maintenance
When laying the two layer parquets, it is necessary to keep the following basic requirements:
The parquets have to be delivered to the place of laying two days in advance to acclimatize the material to climate conditions.
Base layer
• Base layer moisture content
The base layer for laying must be dry, flat and compact according to the ČSN 744505 standard. The residual moisture content of the base layer is best measured using a CM device.
For anhydrite screeds should the moisture content be under 0.5 % CM, for concrete screeds under 2% CM.
If there is a built in floor heating in the screeds, should the above stated limit values be lowered by 0,2 % and 0,3 % against the values for unheated screeds. With these heated constructions pay attention to carry on the so-called heating test according to the heating engineer’s standards. Correctly made heating test could noticeably lower the residual moisture content of the base layer, so that the following laying and operation functions without any problems.
• Anhydrite base layer
Another important requirement is correct treatment of the base layer/grinding of the anhydrite, its penetration before screeding, or direct gluing. It is not possible to forget these important working operations. lot of information was published about this theme in professional magazines, presented in trainings, but still unfortunately the underrating of base layer preparation occurs quite often in practice.
• Climate conditions
The air temperature during parquet laying should be 18-22 oC, air humidity 40–60%, this temperature and humidity range is the same as the moisture content of the parquets, which is 9 – 2 % and it is necessary to keep this moisture content during all the service life of the floor.

Gluing
We recommend to use glues from the company UZIN MK 95 , or MK 92 S, or glues from the company Thomsit P 600, P 618 and for non-starving base layers P 625 /two-component polyurethane glue/ for gluing massive two layer parquets. For laying onto elastic glue we recommend to use the silane based glue Thomsit P 685.
The same principles as when laying untreated parquets are valid for the spreading of the glue itself, the choice of a correct size of toothed spattle depends on the size of the glued format and on the evenness of the base layer. The bigger the glued format, the higher “ridge” of glue has to be applied, so that after laying the part, the whole format got printed into the glue.

Maintenance
It is necessary to fix the finished floor using preservative agent meant for lacquered floors, which prevents penetration of accidentally spilled water into micro-joints between parquet lamellas – we recommend the use of CC Shine/matt for parquets, or a local joints impregnation preparation from Dr. Schultz. When cleaning the floor, use at most damp rags and avoid large quantities of water.
Laying three layer floors
Floor installation manual
1. Before laying prepare: PE foil, sticky tape, substrate cork noise insulation in rolls, folding rule, pencil, keyhole saw, reciprocal hand saw with open handle, hammer, square hollow gouge, square draw stick and opening bits. Parts have to be laid in the direction of light rays (Exception: if you lay the floor on the surface of an old floor, always lay the floor perpendicularly to the old floor). It is ideal to start with laying at the wall, in which the doors are. For rooms whose length or width is over 8 meters we recommend to create a prolonged spot, which will be the base of a system of guide lines.
2. Simply unroll the roll of cork as substrate noise insulation onto the prepared foundation (use PE foil with mineral foundation and glue the edges to the floor using sticky tape) and firmly close the permeable places.
3. Before starting laying shorten all wooden door frames and doors in the room, where the parquet floor should be laid by the thickness of the NAROWOOD LIFE floor and the thickness of the cork in rolls.
4. Start laying in the right corner of the room and place the first part in such way, that the rabbet points to the wall. Cut lengthwise rabbets of all first line parts to get them to the level. Use hammer and chock to press the parts together at the front side. After laying use opening bits to get the parts exactly linear. Distance from wall and all building parts must be 10 mm at the minimum (for larger rooms it must be minimum of 1.5 mm per one meter of room width.).
5. Then start the second row in the place of the last part of the previous row. It shouldn’t be shorter than 50 cm. Overlap created this way is necessary to stabilize the surface. Place the first part so that it is turned by the latchet to the rabbet of the parts of the previous row. Than press this part by hand and at the same time tap on the joints using the NAROWOOD LIFE baulk on the end of the floor laid. By tapping using this baulk you help the best closing of the parts joints.
6. Continue in the same way as described above and move the front joint of this part to the first part of this row. If only one person is laying the floor, you can evade damage of the front joint by connecting the first two parts with a 20 cm overlap and then tap using hammer through baulk on the next part.
7. Fix the last row by placing the corresponding part in line with the last row laid. Now draw in pencil using another part onto the part, which should now be laid according to the template, the shape of the wall.
8. Then place the parts cut to the exact size into the last row laid. Press the front parts together using the NAROWOOD LIFE baulk and hammer. The last part of this last row is pressed to the previous part using a draw stick. Now remove the opening bits at the wall.
9. Perfect execution of your work: pedestals, transitional parts, repaired places, central heating tube covers, sliders on table and chair legs are important details. Your specialized reseller will be glad to advise you and has a wide choice in stock.
10. Apart from the way of use the length of service life of your NAROWOOD LIFE floor depends on cleanliness and care. Thus use suitable products and keep the manufacturers instructions printed on the material packing. Don’t use aggressive products or products containing solvents and glycerine. Place protective mat under swivel chair. Never clean your NAROWOOD LIFE parquet floor using wet rag, use only damp cloth.
Two final tips:
11. Near the central heating pipes dismount the part adjacent to them, drill holes, apply glue to this part and again lay it on the proper place. Then cover with the central heating pipe cover.
12. When laying the last row of parts under door frames, remove the lock protrusion of the part placed in the previous row by a square hollow gouge. Then apply some glue and insert the last row of parts into the rabbet in the previous row.
Instructions for laying and care:
NAROWOOD LIFE is ideal wooden parquet floor for your entire home. NAROWOOD LIFE is easily laid without using glue. In case of necessity could the NAROWOOD LIFE floor be easily dismounted and comfortably laid again in the same way as for the first time. If the recommendations are kept, you will be satisfied with your NAROWOOD LIFE parquet floor for years – even if the floor is subjected to heavy traffic.
Please keep these recommendations before laying the floor:
The NAROWOOD LIFE floor is generally meant for a floating way of laying. We recommend laying it onto cork substrate noise insulation supplied in rolls. The foundation itself must be clean, dry, flat and also resistant against change of size and pressure as described in the DIN 18356 and 18202 standards. A suitable foundation are for example all types of stone, particleboards, old floors made of parts, PVC floors, if special conditions are met. The NAROWOOD LIFE floor isn’t suitable as a self-supporting floor. Laying on hydronic floor heating is possible if the regulations concerning heating protocol are met. Because of the wood-processing technology, the tree species Beech, Maple and Kempas aren’t suitable for this case. Laying onto electric floor heating is not generally permitted.
For mineral foundation layers (it is especially important in new buildings) has the moisture content of the foundation to be measured before laying the floor. (concrete floors max. 2.0% CM, anhydrite floors max. 0.5% CM of residual moisture content. For hydronic floor heating: concrete floors max. 1.8% CM and anhydrite floors max. 0.3% CM).
PE foil minimum 0.2 mm thick must be laid on all mineral foundation layers as seal against vapours and protection against moisture. The foil should have minimum 20 cm overlap and must be glued at joints.
Unevenness of stone and concrete floors must be flattened out using suitable fillings. Particleboard or wooden floors must be flattened out by grinding, if necessary. Old floors made from parts mustn’t have sagging and screws must be tightened if necessary.
Until the last moment before executing the laying leave the NAROWOOD LIFE floor parts in original packaging lying flat and in temperature 20-22°C and relative humidity 50-60% for 48 hours to acclimatize them. Please open the packages only to execute the laying and to mix parts from several packages.
Thoroughly check the parts for damage that could happen during transport before laying. Material already laid as floor couldn’t be exchanged. Differences in colour and structure are caused by the characteristics of the material and thus are no base for returning. Exposing to direct sunlight could lead to bleaching and change of colour as with many natural products. Offcuts are considered according to the size and shape of the room, but generally they are around 5%.
After the floor is laid, please keep the following:
Service life of the NAROWOOD LIFE parquet floor in the end depends on the way of using it, cleaning and care.
The surface of a lacquered floor has to be cleaned before use with a suitable product for parquet maintenance (for oil impregnated surfaces, please keep the special maintenance instructions).
Depending on the way of use, the floor must be regularly cleaned using suitable cleaning and maintenance products: keep the instructions printed on the material package. Don’t use aggressive products or products containing solvents and glycerine. Especially when overdosed, these products could damage the lacquer surface and make the following sealing impossible. Never clean parquet floor using wet rag, use only damp cloth.
We recommend using a felt doormat or dirt absorbing carpet in the entrance part of the room. Please pay attention so that water isn’t cumulating under these mats. Provide the table and chair legs with felt sliding pads.
NAROWOOD LIFE parquet floor is a natural floor material, which reacts to climate. You should thus always provide stable and pleasant climate, also for your good. Relative humidity 50-60% and room temperature 20-22°C is ideal. During heating season, the air in the room gets extremely dry. To get stable air humidity in the room, it is necessary to place containers with water on heaters and air humidifiers into large rooms. If the humidity of the air in the room increases during summer and autumn, the room must be well ventilated. If the air in the room is too dry, the wood could shrink in the joints and if the air in the room is too moist, the wood in joints could increase its volume. The manufacturer bears no liability in this case. If we expose the floor to direct sunlight, it could cause bleaching and change of colour as with any natural material.
Note: For hydronic floor heating, the temperature at any part of the parquet floor mustn’t get higher than 27°C with room temperature 20-22°C. The humidity of the air at the floor also mustn’t drop below 50%.
We hope you will enjoy your NAROWOOD LIFE parquet floor for a long time.

Laying and maintenance manual for Narotex carpet squares
One pallet usually contains 20 cardboard boxes, with 20 squares 50x50 cm (5m2) in each box. Never store two pallets stacked, you will avoid possible damage. Every box has a number of colour batch. Before laying make sure that the squares are from the same batch. It is important not to mix squares from different colour batches during laying, as there could be small differences in the colour tone between different batches.
The foundation layer material of the squares is bitumen. The temperature during laying must be between 10°C and 25°C and relative air humidity around 60%. It is necessary to take the squares out of boxes and let them lay free on the floor for 24 hours before laying them, so that they adapt to the temperature of the given space, which ensures their latter stability.
There is an arrow on the back side of the squares, showing the direction of fibre inclination. Whether you lay the tiles together with whole edge or with half of the edge length overlap, you must make sure that the arrows always point in the same direction. If you lay a chessboard pattern, the arrow must always form 90° angle with the direction of the previous tile arrow. Start by laying a full tile in the doorway and continue to the middle of the room parallel to the main wall. Make sure no material is trapped in the squares joints.
Squares could be laid in different ways (based on the recommended laying of the concrete product):
Full length – all arrows in the same direction.
Chessboard pattern –arrows forming an angle of 90°
Half length-every row shifted by half of the edge length, 4 corners never meet
Remaining area along the walls is laid in the end. Place the tile meant for cutting on the last tile laid. Place another tile onto them and move it to the wall.
We recommend to fix carpet squares n full area using a flexible glue, which allows for latter possible exchange of damaged squares or their removal and repeated laying.
Tiles could be laid also without glue, but between the doors and into offices or other heavily loaded places we recommend to always use double faced adhesive tape.
Floor must be flat, grease free and dust free. It is important for the floor to be completely dry. Old, damaged, uneven floorings must be removed before laying. In case of floor heating, the temperature must stay under 28°C. Newly laid materials have characteristic aroma, which will disappear in short time if the ventilation is sufficient.
Recommendation for laying carpet squares
Immediately after buying check the colour and batch number of individual cardboard boxes. Batch lot number is printed on the outside of the cardboard box.
Before laying:
Before you start to lay the carpet squares, it is important to adjust the temperature of carpet squares to the room temperature. You should therefore let the carpet squares 24 hours before laying lay without cover in the place of laying. Floor temperature during laying mustn´t be lower than 15°C.
To ensure perfect laying, the base surface must be even, solid, dust free, dry and dimensionally stable, all residues of cleaning and treatment preparations, as well as possible old carpet residues, must be removed. The carpet squares mustn’t be laid onto old textile floorings. In case of laying the carpet squares on a floor equipped with floor heating, the floor temperature mustn’t the room temperature exceed 28°C. It is not possible to eliminate the characteristic smell. If the ventilation is sufficient, the smell disappears after some time.
Laying:
An arrow showing the direction is on the back side of each square. It is necessary to keep watching the arrow during laying.
We recommend to lay the squares in a chessboard pattern. The arrow must form an angle of 90° with the previous tile arrow. (Chessboard effect) In this way the squares structure (especially loops and ribbing) will be strongly promoted.
Before the laying itself, it is important to divide/plan the space. We recommend starting from the side with doors and continuing through the space, which is most frequently loaded. Make an auxiliary line (line A) through the room parallel to the wall. The distance should be multiple of the square side length. measure the distance in two places (B and C). (See the pictures below).
Now go from the door with a multiple of carpet squares inside the room. In the middle of the room make another auxiliary line (line B), perpendicular tot he line A. (See the pictures below). In the cutting angle of both lines A and B lay the first carpet square D and fix it to the floor using double faced adhesive tape.

Now you can start laying carpet squares to the room. Other carpet squares will be gradually and closely connected to the square D, without pressure. If the room is larger than 25 m2, we recommend always fixing every fifth row to the floor using double faced adhesive tape.
If swivel chairs are to be used in the room, it is important for the base onto which the carpet squares will be laid to be treated by some commonly available fixation glue for carpet squares, which according tot he general experience sufficiently prevents moving of the carpets under wheels and prevents shear stress.
When laying carpet squares in commercial space, we recommend always using fixing (flexible) glue for carpet squares.
It is necessary to cut the border squares using a suitable carpet knife. We recommend to lay the square meant for cutting onto the last square laid. lay another square on it and move to the wall. Now you can mark the cutting line to the border square and cut the last square using ruler and carpet knife. We generally recommend to always fix the squares at walls and transitions using a double faced adhesive tape.
